A snapshot assessment is rapid - to allow the nurse to decide which hashtag step should be prioritised. Usually this will be history, but if red flags are appear in the snapshot, the nurse may need to immediately procede to primary survey or interventions.

Many nurses use gut instinct (or gestalt) to perform this, and with experience this can be done. However structured approaches for snapshotting are available.
