The supervisor prepares the learner for a patient encounter and then watches the learner interact with the patient.
Effective for history and physical examination skills.
Set the expectation that this is a learningexercise, not a test.
Clarif what aspectsf the interaction you are most interested in, and what you are not.
The learner talks to and examines the patient.
Then, the supervisor discusses the aspects of performance that were established earlier.
A structured format is possilble, eg using an OSCE tool.
